We Heart That Alexa Chung’s First Topshop Purchase Was A Sweatshirt She Agonised Over Whether She Could Afford

And yes, the other Topshop front rowers nostalgia trips are just as sweet

Everyone loves Topshop right? Which is why the high-street-brand-turned-London-Fashion-Week-staple seem to have no trouble pulling in the most interesting front row - every, single, season. Where else can you see Anna Wintour make friends with Hailee Steinfeld? Or Daisy Lowe pull out her phone to snap her mate Cara as she struts down the catwalk? In fact, with everyone from trusty LFW stalwarts like Alexa Chung to newbie actress Mr. Selfridge's Sai Bennett (who FYI, is about to star alongside Cara in new movie Face Of An Angel), the 20-strong front row almost took up nearly the whole damn catwalk.

Unsurprisingly, we stalked a few of them to find out what they love about Topshop. And hate about London Fashion Week.

Clara Paget
Clara Paget

Clara Paget told us her favourite ever Topshop piece is a dress from the late 80’s. ‘It’s this velevet maxi black dress that’s embossed. I’ve worn it to death.' And how’s she getting through fashion week? ‘I’m really into Alt-J’s new album – I can’t stop listening to it.’

Can we just discuss Alexa's handbag?

As for **Alexa Chung **(side note: her Chanel milk carton handbag was perhaps one of the best things we'd ever seen), she also remembers her first Topshop purchase well. ‘I remember in the 90’s agonising over whether or not I could afford this fleece hooded thing from Topshop. It would probably look very cool now given the rise of 90’s skatewear. I mean my styling and how to make it wearable comes from literally living in Topshop for about 4 years. I even used to know where things were on the floor like, “Oh you need the culottes! OK well if go over there and take right they’re right near the red stuff…”’

Jessie Ware, the newlywed!

Jessie Ware was on a high from her recent wedding. 'It was amazing!' she told us. 'We didn't really do a honeymoon because we got married in Greece so it felt like one already.' And what of her special wedding gift - bikini bottoms emblazoned with her married name, Mrs Burrows? 'They're by a wicked brand called Auria - they made them for us. I love them but I think maybe I'll frame them and get some plain ones to wear on holiday because I don't think I want Mrs Burrows on my arse the whole time. I'm reminded every day that I'm married with the ring, so I don't need every person around the pool to know when I dive in.' And how did she cope with post-wedding hangover? ‘Salty food is best. Marmite is good and sorry even though you don’t want it – probably a blast of fruit smoothie with loads of ginger. It might not taste great but it’ll do the job.’

Meanwhilst pastel blue-skirted Harley Viera Newton told us her favourite Topshop piece has already had two outings this week already. ‘I have a collared white button down that goes with everything and no matter where I’m going I always pack it. It’s a really staple for me. Topshop do amazing statement pieces but the staples are so good too.’ And how’s she surviving fashion week? ‘I’ve been listening to the Sam Smith album non-stop and I’m not sick of it yet!’

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner of Game Of Thrones fame was feeling a little bit overawed at sitting just one space away from Anna Wintour at her first Topshop show. ‘Oh my God you don’t understand. Bascially my entire wardrobe is Topshop. They gave me these jeans with my initials on them the other day and I’m obsessed, they’re so cute!’ She said she'd listened to some music to calm her down before heading to the show. ‘I think you need some calming music during fashion week. I love George Ezra* Blame It On Me* and Youth by Daughter.'

Sai Bennett

And finally, let's return to Mr. Selfridge's Sai Bennett - who was also at her first ever fashion week show. ‘I feel so privileged to be here today!’ she told us. And can we just talk about her shoes? Reminiscent of the ones Carrie bought to seduce Berger in Sex and the City they might be our new favourite thing ever. ‘They’re awesome! I feel very fluffy today, and colourful – like a fluffy mermaid!’
