The Gazan #RubbleBucketChallenge Is Now A Thing

The ALS ice bucket challenge has just got a spin put on it by Gazans looking to prove their plight by the rubble of their houses over their heads...

Following on from the Ice Bucket Challenge, done to promote awareness of ALS/motor neurone disease, people in Gaza are doing the Rubble Bucket Challenge. Done to draw attention to the plight of Gazans whose homes have been turned to rubble after anti-Hamas attacks from the Israeli army, it really does what it says on the tin/bucket.

Explaining that Gazans don't have enough water to do the challenge, people take it in turns to pour rubble over each other's heads, filming the process and uploading the videos to

– which now has over 4,000 likes. Its aim is to 'raise awareness about the war on Gaza where people are bombed inside their homes. All people are invited to accept the challenge.'

People from around the world are now doing this gritty challenge. Though we're not sure it's quite as safe as the ice-bucket challenge, it does make a very good point about the resources and sanitation that's available to Gazans right now. Plus, if this is the lengths Palestinians are having to go to to get their plight heard, then something still is seriously wrong. We're not sure what they want from the awareness of what's happening in Israel/Gaza (there is a ceasefire at the moment), but clearly they're desperate.
