Taylor Swift Is Being Sued For Those Shake It Off Lyrics (Again)

Shake It Off was probably one of Taylor Swift’s greatest hits. It signified the beginning of a retrospectively brief period of her career where literally everyone thought she was really fucking cool. Taylor Swift wasn’t just the girl next door, she was the kookie, lolzy girl next door who was totally fine with being the ‘uncool’, uncoordinated one who isn't able to do ballet, twerk, break dance or any of the other styles of dance that appear in the song’s music video.

You see, back in 2014, Taylor wasn’t about being down and out about all the liars and dirty, dirty cheats of the world. No, Taylor was too busy listening to that. Sick. Beat. Three years on however, we’re undoubtedly living in a very different era of Taylor Swift. The era that is suddenly all about Reputation and demands that we all Look What We Made Her Do. And now, a couple of songwriters have come out of the woodwork with claims that the lyrics TayTay used in that now rather stifled beat were actually stolen.

A spokesperson for Taylor Swift has said: ‘This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case’. This is not, however, the first time someone has tried to make a claim over those Shake It Off lyrics. Back in November of 2015 a singer called Jesse Braham tried to sue Taylor for £27million on the basis that Taylor had stolen the words from his song Haters Gone Hate. Safe to say, his case didn’t go anywhere so there probably isn’t much anticipation that this new one will get very far. But who knows. In the meantime, you may as well take it as an excuse to bask in the nostalgic brilliance that is 3LW. Hardcore Nickelodeon fans will recognise them from a rogue episode of Tiana.
