If you thought our obsession with nostalgic throwbacks was a thing of the past, Cardi B and Bruno Mars are here to tell you that we’re still living for those 90s vibes.

Bruno called upon rap’s woman of the moment for the funky fresh remix of Finesse from his 24K Magic album. Missed the song when it first came around in 2016? I hate to say it but Cardi B is the reason you’re going to want to give it some new-found attention right about now.

Cardi opens the remix with a new verse that wouldn’t have been out of place somewhere between Kris Kross Jump and Nature By Nature’s Hip Hop Hooray on a compilation album twenty five years ago. Her lyrics are very Fresh Prince of Bel Air, too, as she documents her 'started from the bottom now we here ris'e to fame. ‘I went from dollar bills, now we popping’ rubber bands’, she raps. If you’ve ever mused about what a female Fresh Prince(ss) would look like, this is it. Take it all in.

This visual homage to everything we hold dear about our millennial childhoods (the style, the beat, the fun being had as opposed to the brooding moodiness of more recent musical releases… you know, the little things) is dedicated to In Living Colour, one of Bruno Mars’ favourite T.V shows of all time, he tweeted.

Don’t know what it is? It was an American comedy sketch series that ran in the early 90s about the Wayans siblings. Not far from a version of Saturday Night Live that involved a cast of people of colour. Jamie Foxx and Jim Carrey were in it back in the day too.

But back to this particular collaborative masterpiece. Get on board because our bets are on this being played A LOT over the coming weeks. Conveniently not long before the Grammys for which both Bruno and Cardi are up for several awards...
