The £8.99 Lipstick That Really Does Stay On After Snogging And Sandwiches

There is a beauty god.

Few things in life live up to our expections. The last Sex and the City movie – let down. Cadbury’s Egg ’n’ Spoon – dissapointing. And make-up that claims to last 24-hours? Usually a complete lie or massively expensive.

But here’s where it’s time to forget everything you thought you knew. The new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet is nothing short of amazing. Liquid lipsticks – for anyone not already wearing them already – are already pretty impressive: as easily applied as a lip gloss, as pigmented and as long-wearing as a lipstick, and with a matte finish.

But the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet raises the bar. For one, it lasts forever. Or almost. Like the lab rat that I’m happy to be, I tried it out for nine hours – and it was still on my lips afterwards. Yes, really. No feathering and no fading.

I’m not quite sure how it does this – and stays so ace. Because usually long-wearing means drying as hell but this formula remains comfortable all day. It withstood breakfast, endless cups of tea, a cheeky glass of wine or two, a handful of awkward cheek-smooches and countless licks (yes, I’m a lip-licker) and some how it did all this without transferring.

Whatever trickery is at work here that allows this unassuming little liquid lipstick to be the hardest working lip product in our extensive beauty hoard, quite frankly – I don’t care. I am just rejoicing in the discovery of a product that absolutely lives up to its bold claims and then some.

And you haven’t even heard the best bit. Which is that it’s only £8.99. All of which goes some way to explain why prior to its launch into Boots this month there was already a waiting list of over 1,000 eager shoppers. (It’s now in stock on Boots.com and goes nationwide from July 2014).

The only thing we can fault it for? There are only eight shades, which is not nearly enough for us.
