No one encapsulates the vibe of late 90s-00s R&B quite like Destiny's Child. There are very few among us who don't know the words to Say My Name. It's hard not to follow the word 'question' without the subconscious recital of the Independent Women lyrics and I dare you not to shimmy to the intro to Bootylicious.
Destiny's Child are an institution, you guys. No ifs, no buts, no comparison. And while early non-musical memories of everyone's favourite girl group are often dominated by that fantastic episode of Cribs and the awkward switching of LeToya and LaTavia for the lovely Michelle, let's not allow their incredible outfits to be left out of their legacy.
Often designed by Beyoncé's mum, Tina Knowles, the women of Destiny's Child could be relied up on for a number of things: asymmetric hem lines, determined use of sequin, embellishment or pattern, and the type of elaborate 'matching but not matching' collective ensemble that will (or at least, should) go down in history.
February marks 20 years (yep, we're all ancient) since Destiny's Child released their debut self-titled album. In honour of such a pop culturally poignant occasion (don't argue) let's revisit some of their best outfit moments.
