How To Wear Colour When The Weather Is Grey And The Sun Rarely Shines

It’s easy to have a bleak outlook in January, everything from the sky to our mood is greyer than usual. For as long as the thermometers fail to read double-digit degrees blast away the cold with the injection of sprightly colour into your day-to-day. Luckily, Instagram’s influencers have been painting the way by experimenting with vibrant, vivid shades. Scroll on for a masterclass in untraditional clashes, adding a splash of colour or deep diving into a single shade…

1. Mojito

Take the zing out of a zesty statement piece by pairing it with understated basics, like tailored trousers and a white t-shirt. But, if you’re willing to turn up the heat then skip over Paloma Elsesser’s cautious styling and wear your sour lime corset with a hue bright enough to wake up the back of the bus.

2. Strawberry Daquari

There’s no need to retire your pink suit just because the temperature has plummeted, just add layers. Thick tube socks, cute boots, beanies and insulating cardigans are an antidote to winter’s wickedly cold winds.

3. Lemoncello

This colour clash is revolting it shouldn’t work, yet it 100% does. So, don’t be surprised if you see us wearing a banana yellow beret and a baby pink scarf anytime soon.

4. Green Machine

Sometimes the easiest solution to warming up an outfit for a cold weather day is a by adding a singularly brilliant piece, like Nicolette’s leopard print puffa jacket. Not only does her ASOS coat keep her warm but it adds a needed splash of green to her monochrome foundation pieces.

5. Rainbow Wave

Chase the sartorial pot of gold by layering a coloured slip dress over a rainbow striped sweater. The trick to pulling this off? Statement bejewelled earrings may seem like unnecessary touch, but they are the glue that brings these colours together.
