Meet 2017’s Answer To The Winter Party Dress

With Halloween and Bonfire Night behind us, it’s that time of year when our calendar is stacked full of invitations. From now until the 1st of January it’s a marathon of events from office drinks to reunions with old friends that require more razzmatazz than your bog-standard little black dress. We’re not complaining as any excuse to dress up is welcome in this current fashion climate of athleisure. Statement earrings and fish-net tights? Yes, please. High-heels and a ridiculously miniature crystal-studded bag? Hell yeah.

While the chance to bring a sprig of sparkle to our after-dark wardrobe is welcome, ideally we’d like to find a do-it-all dress that can be whipped out without too much ironing and only requires a change of accessory for each occasion. With all the ingredients of a classic cocktail dress but the scene-stealing appeal of a souped-up LBD, the blazer dress is your answer to winter party dressing. For starters, it already has the blessing of Kim Kardashian and Gigi Hadid. Though it’s black (read: versatile) and long-sleeved (read: warm and practical) it’s anything but boring.

Since Hilary Clinton put the spotlight on pants suits during her Presidential campaign, tailoring has been enjoying a womenswear revival. This season double-breasted blazers (teamed with jeans and a tee) have been enjoying the limelight, so it’s only natural for their post-watershed transformation to be a little more risqué. Say farewell to trousers and skirts because this winter you’ll want to embrace this powerful boss-of-the-boardroom image.

When it comes to styling very little is required more than a pair of sneakers or mules and at a pinch a pair of fishnet tights. This is proof it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas party dresses. Sit back, consult that calendar and scroll through these seven splendid examples of this winter’s keynote dress…
