Period Sex Just Got A Lot Easier With This New Menstrual Cup

Menstrual cups are all the rage these days. No more putting potentially carcinogenic tampons inside one of the most sensitive parts of your body, menstrual cups are safer, more eco-friendly and sustainable. Not only will one save you spending thousands on tampons over your lifetime (they can last up to 10 years with proper care), they’re less likely to upset the pH balance and less drying for your vagina. Claps all round.

Having already saved us from the chemical additives in most tampons, menstrual cups are coming to our rescue once more, solving the age-old dilemma of period sex. Yes, that infuriating, evolution-hates-women issue of being unbelievably horny but unable to have sex without ruining your bed sheets (to a greater degree than they’re already ruined by every other fluid involved in sex). Now, there’s a new menstrual in town, the Ziggy Cup, or, if I was in charge of their marketing, the Jiggy Cup, since you can well and truly get jiggy with it using this cup (they have honestly missed a trick there.)

Yes, Intimina has brought out the first ever menstrual cup that can be word during penetrative sex. The cup claims to be ‘petal-thin with a leak-proof double rim’ with a ‘revolutionary flat-fit design’ which supposedly ‘can’t be felt at all’. Unlike traditional menstrual cups which have a stem that goes down the vaginal canal and in some brands can poke out, the Ziggy Cup is stemless and is placed just below the cervix, away from the vaginal canal.

Apparently, the hexagon pattern of the cup creates resistance, so any fluid it collects won’t spill, even with a giant rod knocking at it again and again (if you’re that lucky). Collecting up to 76ml of blood, it holds more than double traditional favourites the Mooncup and Diva Cup, offering protection for up to 12 hours.

Our only concern is how difficult it may be to remove, since it doesn’t have the token menstrual cup stem. Although, if you’re a period sex connoisseur, you may already be used to menstrual sponges which are similarly as challenging to remove. However, the manual suggests a simple hook and pull method, stating:

'To remove, insert a clean finger into your vagina and hook it under the front rim. Pull slowly, keeping the cup parallel to the floor to avoid any messy situations.'

Honestly, we’re down for anything that means our periods are less disruptive to our daily lives, sex life included.
