‘I couldn’t have asked for a better year’ wrote Taylor Swift in a caption on Instagram, with a picture of her performing at the Jingle Bell Ball in London.

And, predictably, Twitter was not impressed.

2017 was the year of Trump, terror and political uncertainty cough Brexit cough, and it looks like 2018 won’t be a walk in the park either.

This tweet just about sums 2017 up…

Twitter users highlighted some of her more problematic 2017 moments

And others tried to remind her of some of the worst moments of 2017

It seems as though Swift can’t do anything right at the moment, she recently featured on TIME Magazine’s Person Of The Year cover as one of the silence breakers who spoke out about sexual abuse, but some people weren’t impressed at her inclusion, saying she only made it on there because of her celeb status.

However on an individual level, Taylor has had some great career moments; she released an album, performed all over the world, won a lawsuit, and she’s now in a happy relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn. Is it SO bad to post a self-congratulatory Instagram pic?

Here are some people who really didn’t have such a good year…

Zoella came under fire in November this year after selling an advent calendar for £50. She was criticised for the high price point as her fan base is young, Boots later halved the price of the calendar, and Zoella released a statement saying: 'Zoe is incredibly proud of the Christmas collection and excited to see it in store. However, the pricing and in store promotional strategy of the collection, including the calendar, is at the control of third parties and is not set by Zoe.'

Kendall Jenner

There are two main controversies from 2017 that it will take some time for people to forget. The first is an ill-judged Pepsi ad that co-opted the Black Lives Matter protest visuals and made Jenner into a peace maker with a can of Pepsi – making it seem as though ending a protest is as simple as handing a police officer a cold beverage. The second involved a line of T-Shirts with Kendall and sister Kylie's faces photoshopped over icons including Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.
