The singer’s back, but a statement she’s released shows that, despite her riches and fame, she can feel just like us, too…

Even Adele Has Had A Quarter Life Crisis

Are you under 25 and kind of muddling along with life nicely? Enjoy it. Because it’s very likely that when you hit 25, and you’re living in the UK post-recession, you’re going to freak out. Experts and non-experts alike have identified this phenomeon as the ‘quarter life crisis’, where you just can’t really handle life so good, because, well, life’s not giving you as much as you’ve been giving it.

Instead, it’s pushing back, via high rents and no prospect of ever owning a home, degrees that don’t translate into decent jobs, feeling like an imposter in the job you DO have, and the desire to DO so much with your life at the moment right now in this instance, because despite all that time you spend on your commute, time is slipping away faster and less gracefully than a leather-bottomed shoe on a squidgy leaf on a rainy pavement.

One tiny joy in identifying you’re suffering a quarter life crisis is that, well, a) you can learn how to self-soothe by enjoying stuff that doesn’t cost you lots, either in time or money, like Drake memes and Netflix; and b) you can be safe in the knowledge you’re not alone.

One person who’s certainly with you on the quarter life crisis, is Adele. Despite being an award-winning singer with millions to her name, a lovely country pile she shares with a partner and child, the 27-year-old has written a statement sort of apologising and explaining where the hell she disappeared to.

She wrote, ‘Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I’m going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk.’

That’s figurative junk, we think.

‘I miss everything about my past, the good and the bad, but only because it won’t come back. When I was in it I wanted out! So typical. I’m on about being a teenager, sitting around and chatting shit, not caring about the future because it didn’t matter then like it does now.’

Succumbing to all the responsibilities that come with her age and, hey, maybe less relatably to us – being a mum – she then continued, ‘*25 *[that’s the name of the album] is about getting to know who I’ve become without realising. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.’

She didn’t really need to apologise – it’s not our god-given right to listen to her music, is it? But what’s so charming is that she had a little freak out about life aged 25, just like so many of the rest of us. If her album is as relatable as her statement? Well, expect another few awards and millions heading Adele’s way.
