Ariana Grande will be the first person to be named as an honorary citizen of Manchester following her One Love fundraiser concert and her continued efforts to support the victims of the Manchester terror attack.
Since the terror attack, which took place on the 22nd May after Grande’s concert at the Manchester Arena, Ariana's love, support and solidarity with the people of Manchester has been evident, and as such is set to be recognised by the city’s council as an honorary Mancunian.
Council leader Sir Richard Leese said, in an interview with the BBC, that ‘this seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city.’
He added, ‘we’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.’
