You can wear them anyway if you're really jealous

You know that thing, where when you see a pair of glasses kicking about, you can’t but just help pick them up and put them on? I’m blessed with excellent eyesight, and yet, deep down I have this yearning that I’d quite like to wear glasses. Let’s just go along with my fantasy, for a minute. The hypothetical question is, what pair would I go for? I mean, if I’m going to have something sitting slap bang in the middle of my face, it’s a decision that needs to be given some thought.

Add in the fact that there are updates every season to which shapes and finishes are cool, and now there is often eyewear on the catwalks, then it's easy to head to Specsavers and buy the first pair you see (blurrily) just to avoid the headache of choosing the right ones. But come on guys, there are tonnes of cool indie brands offering interesting frames that you should read up on. We had a scout out for the shapes of the season and found a shortlist of styles that will see you right.

**The Minimalist Oblong Pair **

Seoul frames, £213

Prism London has nailed the art of sleek, and you can't get much more minimalist than the Seoul style. Added bonus? You can match your glasses with the rest of the brand’s offering, from a smoking hot bikini to a good old pair of espadrilles: top to toe in Prism, you’ll be owning that pool-side like there is no tomorrow. In about six months. Until then you can just look cool at your desk.

The See-Through Square

Horne frames, £275

These oversized acetate frames from Larke Optics are the barely there option - if you're worried about dark frames taking over your face then a clear style will feel far less freaky. They're not cheap (interesting glasses that won't snap in five minutes are worth paying for) but if you go for the clear option, you're unlikely to go off them.

A Round Turtle Pair

Herbrand frames, £125

Cubbitts has a workshop (code for store) in Soho…that must mean it’s cool right? Most of the styles are unisex, which gives it extra brownie points on the cool scale. One of their most popular styles is the Herbrand which will suit most face shapes…pair these turtle bad boys with an oversized white shirt, casually tousled hair and voila you’ve got yourself that wannabe intellectual look.

A Sixties Rectangular Pair

Vernon frames, £170, Garrett Leight

Check out these pretty stern looking babies, which vibe of the sixties and seventies obsession on the catwalks with all things mustard and brown. And this pair has a swirly mix of the two. Winning. This shape will suit slender faces, FYI.

An Updated Aviator

Canby RX frames in Zebrawood, £250

If you’re always the one to go that extra mile when trying to be a little bit different, then you should check out Shwood. If you hadn’t guessed, Shwood do…wooden frames. Certainly not your average pair of specs, their glasses feature an Aircraft birch core (whatever that means). The Canby RX is their original style, available in a range of colours: is it going to be Walnut or Zebrawood? Tough choice.

**The Classic Squoval **

Lucy in Electric Lady, £89

Glasses so often come with an exorbitant price tag that makes you and your bank card wince. On that front Ace & Tate have got you covered. At £89 a pop, including the lenses, you have to admit that’s a pretty sweet deal for prescription glasses. It’s online and with a free home try-on service, it’s as if they were intentionally trying to make life so much easier for us. This squoval style comes in an aqua and brown dappled acetate that feels bang on trend for SS15.

The Huge Hollywood Square

St Tropez in Napolitina, £260

Kirk Originals is all about that vintage feel. It’s everyone’s ambition to look like some silver screen Hollywood star (right?), so there’s no harm in playing the part with this St Tropez style that has shots of orange, purple and green running through the oversized frames. So yeah, maybe there is that age-old stigma where glasses = nerdy, but those who still stick to this mantra need to give it a rethink. Glasses = sexy. Especially when you’re sporting some shit hot eyewear brand.
