Tinder Just Bought A New App That’s Basically Snapchat

This is a really great development for people who like dick pics

In a move that will strike joy into the hearts of dick-pic-aficionados everywhere, Tinder has just bought Tappy – an app that will allow people to send pictures to individual users lasting for 24 hours.

While Tinder already offers Moments, a feature we all use constantly (sarcasm), the idea is that the Tinder guys are going to work with Chill (the Tappy guys) to figure out where they can take image-messaging in the near-future.

While Moments are sent, incredibly irritatingly, to all the people you match with, Tappy will be like sending a picture message over Whatsapp: you can send it to just one person. In theory, this sounds like a good thing, but wait until you start getting ball pics. And we’re not talking about sport.

It launched in July 2014, and is cited as ‘like having a live chat room attached to your fun and wacky moments’. Users can send text messages, but all conversations have to start with a photo. Apparently, around 50% of Tinder users already use Moments (YEAH AND WE WISH YOU’D STOP) so it made sense for the app to up its picture game.

‘We’re very good at connecting people, but there’s this, “What happens after that?” moment that we want to improve,’ Sean Rad, the CEO of Tinder told TechCrunch. ‘We not only want to get better at the way we use criteria to connect people, but we want to broaden the reasons for connecting in the first place. The Tappy team will help us tackle both fronts, the pre-match experience of creating that first connection and the post-match experience of communicating with that person.’

Don’t worry if you don’t want to start picture-messaging just yet, though, because it may only be open to Tinder Plus users – where users will soon be able to pay for an ‘undo’ button, the ability to search for dates in different locations, and even sight-seeing or restaurant recommendations.

And why not, considering the app has nearly hit the 5 billion matches per day mark. Which is totally insane, when you think about it.
