If there was one trend that consumed the catwalks for A/W 2014, it was the 1960's. Gucci brought back to life the super short sleeveless shift dress (try saying that in a hurry) while Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Saint Laurent championed mini skirts a go-go.

But before you start drawing matchstick eyelashes on your face, step away from the khol, and start thinking about how you're going to wear the trend without looking like you're doing your best Twiggy impression. It's easy to venture into fancy dress territory when you try to reference a particular era, so rather than looking like you lost your mind in a vintage shop, take a look at these retro inspired looks and get our tips on how to introduce the sixties into your usual style.

**Pair A Retro Patent Mini With Androgynous Ankle Boots **

The mini skirt was a hero piece in the Miu Miu AW 2014 collection, but if you were to wear this awesome patent version and roll neck with knee high boots, you might look too much like you're going to launch into doing the twist. These strappy ankle-boot-sandal-hybrids are an unexpected addition to the look, making it feel modern and cool.

**Try A Colour Block Knit For Work **

The useful thing about 1960s dressing is that the fun shapes and zany colours make for easy day-to-night outfits, so buy yourself a couple of key pieces that you can wear to work before heading out for a mega night out, without needing to do a catterpillar/butterfly routine in your office loo. This jumper channels sixties' colour blocking, and paired with this knitted dress from Bimba & Lola allows you to wear the trend to work without flashing your thighs.

**Update A Sixties Roll Neck With Noughties Trainers **

The best way to stop yourself looking like an extra from Heartbeat is by mashing up the eras you reference. Wear this year's Nike trainers with a sixties style mini and roll neck to avoid looking twee.
