She reckons they're pushing back against the overly-aggressive feminist types

The feminism conversation is happening on the regular now, with the subject popping up in almost every interview with young female actresses, and more recently has started reaching more men with #heforshe

Kristen Stewart seems like she would be a pretty legit feminist. Her no bulls**t attitude and strong woman vibe is very feminist-ish, so it comes as no surprise that she thinks any actress that says she’s not a feminist is kind of ridiculous. However, she also has an explanation for it – she says the young ones are just pushing back against the louder, more extreme feminists of the older generation, who had to shout loudly to be heard. She gets that they had to shout, but thinks it’s counter-productive for the young ones.

‘I think it’s a response to overly-aggressive types. ‘ she told the Daily Beast. ‘There are a lot of women who feel persecuted and go on about it, and I sometimes am like: “Honestly, just relax, because now you’re going in the other direction.” Sometimes, the loudest voice in the room isn’t necessarily the one you should listen to. By our nature alone, think about what you’re saying and say it – but don’t scream in people’s faces, because then you’re discrediting us.’

Of her peers who say they’re not feminists, she says: ‘That’s such a strange thing to say, isn’t it? Like, what do you mean? Do you not believe in equality for men and women?’

She flat-out disagrees with the notion that women have to be bitchy to succeed in Hollywood, and reckons those who do behave like A-holes actually give all actresses a bad name.

‘People say: “If you want to make it in the film industry as a woman, you have to be a bitch.” No, you are going to ruin any chance you have and give us a bad name. It’s the overcompensation to where our generation goes, “Relax,” because it’s been easier for us, and because we don’t have as much of the anger, so it’s like we can’t get behind it and it’s a bit embarrassing. But that being said, it’s a really ridiculous thing to say you’re not a feminist.’
