New York Fashion Week is still going strong but there’s a clear winner coming through on the trend-front: the swinging ’60s. It all started last season with Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Saint Laurent – whose mod aesthetic got people chatting as much as the arguably super-skinny models. Saint Laurent’s block-heeled Mary Janes, silver mini dresses, brightly glittered ankle boots and plaid mini skirts with fitted blazers kickstarted a penchant for the ’60s, which has continued into this season.
Tommy Hilfiger, in particular, gave a big fat nod to the era with his super-fun catwalk show yesterday, which featured Kendall and Georgia Jagger and a ton of star-strewn temporary tattoos, as happy young star-struck groupies at a music festival. With a flower arrangement reminiscient of a The Beatles’ iconic Sgt Pepper album cover, the vibe was reduxed Woodstock and the clothes were all lurex and patchwork, drummer boy jackets, velvet and kickflares with modern touches like Chelsea boots and brightly coloured faux fur.
‘People don’t really know me now for my love of music – the Beatles, the Stones, Hendrix, The Who – so I thought I would celebrate my passion, my beginning, my roots,’ Tommy Hilfiger said at the preview of his show.
Indeed, Hilfiger isn’t the only one. Victoria Beckham’s neat pink floral suits were very Twiggy by way of Elle woods.
You needn’t wait until next summer to start working this era, though. There are plenty of things on the high street to ease yourself into a mod-like Autumn. I mean, just look at this total look by Reformation? It’s just dropped in store and it's a hunk of ’60s inspo, right there.

Do we even need to explain this one? Wear with a flippy graphic print skirt and a chunky knit, a la Zooey Deschanel/Alexa.
