Oh dear, Robin Thicke. Embroiled in a (frankly quite odd) lawsuit for ripping off Marvin Gaye's* Got To Give It Up* to create his infamous worldwide hit Blurred Lines, Robin has admitted/conveniently insisted that actually, he didn't really write the song at all. Instead, he says he was flying high on Vicodin and alcohol while poor old Pharrell Williams was hard at work in the studio, conjuring up the 'hey, hey, hey's.'

According to court papers filed yesterday, Robin admitted to lying to papers about his involvement with the song: 'The biggest hit of my career was written and produced by somebody else, and I was jealous and I wanted some of the credit,' he said, under oath. 'I started kind of convincing myself that I was a little more part of it than I was.'

The late Marvin Gaye's estate are accusing Robin and Pharrell of stealing the Motown legend's 1977 hit Got To Give It Up. (After careful listening of the tunes, so you don't have to get the inanely catchy chorus of Blurred Lines into your head for the rest of the day, we can confirm that, while the backing track bears a striking resemblance, the actual song sounds nothing like Marvin Gaye's at all). But what's perhaps more interesting is that the resulting court case is backing up what we already knew: Robin's a bit of a pranny. Example: when he was also questioned as to whether he lies in interviews, he responded: 'I tell whatever I want to say to help sell records.'

Excellent syntax aside, it's a little convenient that Robin's using the trial to confirm he didn't write the misogynistic lyrics to Blurred Lines, including such gems as 'I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two'. Since its release, his reputation has nosedived, which is impressive considering nobody knew who he was to begin with.

While we'd never want to suggest that Robin lied under oath, when asked if he thought he was an honest person, he replied: 'No. That's why I'm separated,' adding later 'I told my wife the truth. That's why she left me.'

It'll be interesting to hear Pharrell's side of the story when he takes the stand. Whatever happens, something tells us he won't be Happy about all of this. #sorrynotsorry
