Movie star and all-round great gal Dakota Fanning has opened up about the unfairness of being expected to act as a model when she's paid to act, rather than be a clothes horse. It's especially annoying, for example, when you're asked to squeeze into tiny clothes that are never going to fit you.
Even though she's fronted campaigns for Mark Jacobs perfumes, the 20-year-old said, in a recent interview with *Lucky *magazine: 'I do think that actresses are expected to be models as well. You really are, and it's not the same. I've felt nervous on photo shoots, like, "I'm just an actor!" I've definitely had times when I've wanted to say, 'This was made for a child. This will not fit me,"' she said of the sample sizes that are designed to fit models, rather than actors. No wonder they feel the pressure to be skinny; photo shoots should cater to the size of the subject, not the other way around. Sigh.

To get through it, Dakota pretends to be a model as though she's acting a part, and finds that makes the experience way more entertaining: 'Sometimes you have to pretend to be acting. It's a matter of figuring out the vibe of the shoot and playing dress-up. Then it can be really fun.'
She also spoke about her surprise at how some actors dress in full couture, even when running errands, which is something she's just not able to do. 'You see people being photographed at airports in runway outfits now! It's like, 'What are you doing? You're going on a nine-hour flight!' But that's OK too I guess,' she mused. 'If you want to wear a runway look to get your coffee in the morning, good for you. I'm sort of inspired. But you shouldn't feel like you have to do that.'
