In a very odd but weirdly sort of sweet news of the day, meet the mum that’s finding her son a date to go to the Cambridge May Ball via the oh-so-romantic medium of Gumtree.

According to the ad, the mum, whose name appears to be Margot, says that her son is ‘fully occupied by school works, so I am helping to look for a female student partner attending May Ball Cambridge with my son (sic).’

The sort of girl she’s got in mind is ‘blonde, talkative, age 19-22 and with an honest and sincere attitude toward this opportunity.’ Margot’s also promised to be generous to the lucky lady and has offered to be ‘responsible for all your expenses’. With tickets for the ball ranging from a hefty £99 to a mind-boggling £225, this offer isn’t one to be sniffed at.

According to Cambridge News, who spoke to Margot, the ad is totally real but, being a thoughtful mum, she wants to keep a low profile on the whole thing, so as not to cause too much trouble for her son.

Whether her son’s got any idea about any of this, we’re not sure. Either way, fingers crossed Margot finds her overworked son the perfect lady and the happy couple have a truly magical, albeit slightly odd, evening together.
