As if things in North Korea couldn’t get any more horrible. Now all male university students are required to have the same haircut as the country’s leader Kim Jong-un. Yes, that haircut.

The rule came into effect two weeks ago, a source told Radio Free Asia, and unsurprisingly, it is extremely unpopular. ‘Our leader’s haircut is very particular, if you will. It doesn’t always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes,’ said the source.

The ‘Dear Leader Kim-Jong Un’ hairstyle rule started out in the capital Pyongyang, and has been extended throughout the country. Women are currently still allowed to choose from a selection of state-approved hairstyles.

The mandated ’do is not just unpopular because it doesn’t suit everyone’s face/shape, it’s also disliked because it was the style worn by Chinese smugglers, according to a North Korean source now living in China, who said: ‘Until the mid-2000s, we called it the ‘Chinese smuggler haircut.’
