We’ve all seen Drop Dead Gorgeous, the mockumentary showing the corruption, grabbing and in-fighting behind the scenes of a beauty pageant (and if you haven’t, you really should), but here’s a storyline that could be just as watchable on film.

A Burmese beauty queen has run off with the £60,000 tiara after being stripped of her title and accused by the events’ officials of lying and being rude. (Being rude is basically criminal in the sort of subculture that depends on women being seen as dainty, pretty ornamental things.)

Officials crowed 18-year-old May Myat Noe, the winner of the Miss Asia Pacific World competition in Seoul, South Korea, earlier this year. However, though she was much deemed much prettier than the rest of the contestants, they still found fault with her.

David Kim, the director of media for the pageant, said, ‘We thought she should be more beautiful... so as soon as she arrived we sent her to the hospital to operate on her breasts.’

Right after whoever he was saying this to (The Guardian) spat out their coffee all over their desk in surprise that someone with the ability to organise any sort of event consisting of more than a high five could be so backward, he continued, ‘It’s our responsibility. If she has no good nose, then maybe, if she likes, we can operate on her nose. If it’s breasts, then breasts.’

Kim also explained that the sponsors picked up the £6,000 bill for the boobs. But of course nothing could really make up for the fact that he and his cronies had made a girl have some massive bags of liquid shoved under her skin. Following the surgery, May moved her mum to live in Seoul with her for what was meant to be 10 days – this soon extended to three months, which cost the organisers, they say. Apparently she ‘lied’ and ‘never had respect for the main organisation, the national director, the manager, media or fans who made her the winner’, according to a statement. Well, we’re not psychologists or anything, but we’d be really pissed off if our boss made us have a boob job.

But the organisers just didn’t get it, and were so appalled with her behaviour that they ordered she relinquish her crown, and got her a ticked back to Rangoon, in Burma. However, she refused to agree with her, and just fucked off with the tiara, worth from 10 to 20 times the amount of the boob job. We figure that’s exactly the sort of compensation she deserves for them being such pricks.

Kim’s set to find her, though, saying, ‘Everyone knows she is no longer the queen, but she thinks as long as she keeps this crown she’s the winner. She’s not.’

The website of Eleven Media, a Burmese newspaper, states that the beauty queen was back in the country and would be holding a press conference soon. We just hope she wears the tiara throughout.
