The colour red: Christian Grey's Panic Room; lace La Senza lingerie; Jessica Rabbit sauciness. In short, the colour red has long been associated with danger, sexuality (and often both combined) but did anyone really take that seriously? Did anyone seriously hold back from wearing a red jumper incase it made them look 'up for it'?

Well, perhaps. According to the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, women who wear red are seen as threatening by both men and women alike. 'Our results suggest that women perceive and behave toward other women in red as if these other women are actively advertising' themselves as sexually available, wrote the team behind the study, noting that of the 196 women interviewed, most of the women would not introduce a woman wearing red to their boyfriend.

Takes deep breath I know guys. Us too. This kind of statement makes us want to wear top-to-toe red forever. And you know what? You should! Because as last night's Emmy awards ceremony proved, red is on the agenda. A-Listers including Heidi Klum and Lena Dunham paid full-length homage to the raunchy ole shade, whilst the AW14 catwalk is absolutely full of it. From Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, to Vivienne Westwood's Red Label, red - in all shades, most particularly the orangey/red clamato - is en vogue this season.

So ignore the haters and avoid the girls who think that your humble red fuzzy turtle neck means that you're going to steal their hunk. Because who wants to be friends with such loons anyway?

Lena's ombre frou frou gown - actually a Giambattista Valli button-down shirt and skirt - received quite a lot of criticism, but we say fuck the haters. As, we imagine, did she.

It'd be fair enough to not want to introduce Heidi to your boyfriend, even now she's got 4 kinder; but look how friendly she looks in her red Zac Posen dress.

Christina Hendricks4 of 10

Christina Hendricks

Defying the notion that redheads can't wear red, in Marchesa, Christina is clearly a rule-breaker - which means she's way too cool to submit herself to such an outdated cliché like wearing red in order to steal your dude.

If wearing red is bad, what about red plus red lipstick? OMG, WE CAN'T COPE. We can. And so can Claire. (Obivously, she's survived Homeland.)

If orange is the new black, red is the new... colour or friendship? 'Crazy Eyes' from Orange Is The New Black, the actress Uzo doesn't look threatening. Just like the kind of fun friend we'd really really like to have.
