It’s Time To Bare Your Shoulders. And Not Just Because Summer Is Coming

They're totally the new erogenous zone

'Tis the season of summer fashion micro-trends – or teeny transformations that actually make a difference. From wearing ankle socks with your shoes, cinching your blouse, unbuttoning your shirt, cuffing your jeans, layering under your crop top to this teensy weensy trend – baring your shoulders.

Which, incidentally, we happen to be pretty happy about. In our eyes, there is nothing sexier than a bare pair of shoulders. Preferably all shiny and tanned, but you can't have everything. Here are four ways to flash your round bits and rock the summer fashion.

Shoulder

1. With a summer dress

The Reformation love to bare a shoulder. Alexa's favourite store is all about the unexpected erogenous zones (aka the back.) The Carrera Dress in Maraschino, £128.92 at The Reformation, is wonderful. You can wear it to a wedding (and thank God – did we mention how hard it is to find non-uptight but also acceptable wedding wear?) and also with sandals on the beach.

2. With a cute crop and some denim

Always with some denim. The Off The Shoulder Crop, £26, by American Apparel at ASOS has recently been re-appropriated. They used to be pretty naff, when worn with high-waist disco jeggings. Now, pair them with loose vintage boyfriend jeans and some grubby trainers. Muuuuch better.

3. With some printed smockiness

This Florinda Crop Top, £22.42, from Nasty Gal* is calling* for some sweat and SPF, pal. Wear with a pair of bikini bottoms and a ton of salt spray. And, er, book yourself a holiday – pronto!

4. With a boat-neck sweater

Wear this Oil Stripe Mohair-Blend Sweater, £250, by Acne at Matchesfashion.com as God (or the catwalk) intended – pushed off the shoulder, slouched around the hips and bunched up at the wrists. Think of it as the sweater's cool new take on Breton.
