In today's smash-your-head-against-a-wall news, the University of Miami conducted a study that found a direct correlation to good grades in high school (termed a grade point average, or, GDP) and high earning potential. As in, those with good grades, are more likely to earn more. But this is just for, erm, men.
The reports cites 4.0 as the highest grade point average a person can get, and shows that a woman with a high school GPA of 4 is worth (later in life, financially, and on average) as much as a man with grades that scored just 2.0 on the scale. And if you're a woman with 2.0 grades then you're worth the same as a guy at 0. Basically, men with lesser grades earn, on average, a lot more than a woman with those same grades - even though grade averages are, on the whole, higher for women.
So a woman would have to get higher than the maximum in order to properly compete against men in the workplace, and bag those top salaries. That's literally 110%.
I mean, come on.
If you want to really depress yourself, women with advanced degrees were found to earn less than men with bachelor degrees and, overall, women with full-time jobs make just 77% of what men do in the exact same equivalent full time job.
One thing to note, though, is that this is just one study, it's based in America and it's the average. Although it does serve as a reminder that the gender gap isn't closing anytime soon, and there's still a lot to be done before we can confidently say that men and women are equal. But you knew that already.
