As more allegations against Terry Richardson come to light, US Vogue has said it has ‘no plans’ to feature his work in its hallowed glossy pages at any point in the future.
Over the past few years, there have been rumblings that thumbs-aloft bespectacled photographer Terry Richardson has acted sexually inappropriately towards models. In the past week, pressure upon magazines, advertisers and newspapers has built after a Skype conversation between Terry and a model was leaked.
British model Emma Appleton Tweeted a screenshot of the message she got from Terry, which showed a conversation – if you could call it that – where the 48-year-old offered her a deal – he would feature her in Vogue if she slept with him.
However, a representative told Buzzfeed that the text was ‘obviously a fake. Terry did not send this text.’ To which Emma responded via Instagram ‘I don’t want this attention… If the account is fake, it needs to be removed, if it’s real then he’s a hideous human.
‘I regret posting it because of what it’s caused but at the same time [if it’s real] then it shouldn’t be covered up, there are too many young, vulnerable girls that the industry can exploit.’
Though there is no proper way of verifying whether Terry really did send those messages to Emma and there are no formal charges against him, the building allegations, which include masturbating into a model’s face and asking another if he could make tea with her tampon, have got a lot of bad press. So much bad press that the behemoth of fashion publishing, Vogue, has seemingly now decided it doesn't want anything to do with Terry, who has photographed celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Barack Obama, Miley Cyrus to Jared Leto.
A spokesperson told Us Weekly: ‘The last assignment Terry Richardson had for US Vogue appeared in the July 2010 issue and we have no plans to work with him in the future.'
As the #NoMoreTerry boycott starts to have an impact on the publishing world, we’ll see who is next to distance themselves from the photographer.
