What's the opposite of coming out? Er – whatever the term is – Jessie J has 'come in' saying that her bisexuality was all just 'a phase'.
The singer did a massive rant's-worth of tweets about it last night – that perhaps she then regretted because she deleted them. (Obviously, her keen Heartbeats transcribed the original tweets and you can read them here.) But the screen-grab on Instagram that she left up last night had a simple message: 'If I do something you don't like. I didn't let you down. We are just different.'
Jessie was one of the first popstars to speak out about bisexuality in a very positive way, telling The Telegraph way back in 2011. 'I've been with guys and I've been with girls. And I kind of think it's about the person not the genitals,' she said, marking her out as one of the very few women in the public eye willing to admit they were different to other female celebrities, but still just as normal.
And when, in 2012, she faced the accusation made in an unofficial biography that she was actually gay and using bisexuality to appear more marketable – she defended herself admirably, saying: 'I’m not anything.'
However, seems like 25-year-old Jessie has now made a commitment to one set of genitals –* *and it goes something like her tweet: 'Vegetarians eat meat sometimes.'
'For me, it was a phase,' the singer told The Mirrorabout her previous bisexuality. 'But I’m not saying bisexuality is a phase for everybody. I feel that if I continue my career not speaking on it, I almost feel more of a liar than if I didn’t. I just want to be honest, and it’s really not a big deal. Who cares?'
She insists she wishes everyone could just stop going on about it, saying: 'I want to stop talking about it completely now and find myself a husband. I did talk about it, and I was open about it, and I do support being lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender – love who you want. That’s what I’m doing.'
Rumours are now circulating around social media that she must have a boyfriend, but there's nothing to confirm yet.
'It’s a true struggle. All the chick flicks that didn’t make sense to me, I now understand – Sex And The City is real!' she continues – making just about as much sense as that scene when Carrie Bradshaw spends a day in the cobbled streets of Paris wafting about in a massive princess gown.
If you'd like to define it as something, Jessie, the name for this sort of behaviour within lesbian circles – well, the politest name for it – is 'hasbian'.
