Women in Toyko are threatening a sex boycott in an attempt to stop a candidate from being voted in as governor.

The candidate in question – Yoichi Masuzoe – is under fire for claims he made in a men’s magazine back in 1989 when he said, ‘Women are not normal when they are having a period … You can't possibly let them make critical decisions about the country such as whether or not to go to war,’

In response, a campaign group has been launched by the name of The Association Of Women Who Do Not Want Yoichi Masuzoe To Be Governor (sort of – turns out Google translate isn’t massively Japanese/English friendly).

The people behind the group – who haven’t been named - are calling for women to refuse sex with any man who votes for Mr Masuzoe and their Twitter campaign has garnered over 3000 followers so far.

It’s not just the period comment the group are angry about. They also claim that when Mr Masuzoe lost 8million yen betting on a horse he subsequently asked to reduce child payment for his ‘severely disabled child born out of wedlock’. They also claim that during a period where several women were elected to government that he said, ‘This is an exceptional period in history, that’s why even women are able to come out of the woodwork…but those who have been elected are all a bunch of old middle aged hags.”

Stay classy Masuzoe.
