Socks With Sandals Are A Thing Again According To Antipodium

Let us count the ways we've ripped off Alexa Chung. Breton? Check. Denim cut-offs? Check. Peter Pan collars? Check. There's times in the past five years that we've felt like the worst kind of stalker. Most keenly, when we're wearing socks with sandals. Granted, they're not as polarising as poolslides with sandals (which, even when worn in their correct environment can evoke sneers) but they're still kind of hard to 'make your own'. Plus, on us mere mortals, they can sometimes end up looking more Aunt-Trunchball-cloddish than so-cute-they're-cool. Bummer, huh.

But wait - hurrah. Because the quietly brilliant Antipodium - one of our favourite designers to show at London Fashion Week, we might add - threw us socks 'n sandals reduxed yesterday. Bunched up thin-ribbed socks were worn with super-delicate black T-bar strappy stiletto sandals adorned with floor-brushing feathers. Seriously, you heard it first: next winter is going to be all about chunky sockwear and foofy floofy feathery sandals that basically act as your own personal street sweepers. (Super practical, no?) And who says you have to wait for next winter? With a quick visit to Tabio you could get into this well before. (Well, minus the feathery sandals but then again...)

Antipodium - which is stocked in ASOS' brilliant designer section - was born in 2o06, the brainchild of the (unsurprisingly) Australian duo, Ashe Peacock and Geoffrey J. Finch and is rooted firmly in a 'dress up dress down' East London aesthetic. You won't see any fishnet bodysuits on their catwalks; this is ready to wear at it's, er, readiest. Their AW14 show championed pleated metallic mini skirts, velvet midi skirts, ribbed rollnecks, putty-coloured teddy bear peacoats and orange fleece dresses. And before you ask - yes. Orange fleece totally works.
