Now that she’s been crowned princess of pop that isn’t quite as poppy as Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, there’s a lot of pressure for Lorde to be a role model. But, at only 17, she doesn’t want to be seen as an example for children as she knows she’s bound to make mistakes along the way to adulthood.

‘That’s a crazy one because, obviously I am 17, I’m going to fuck some stuff up at some point, because I think that’s a natural part of becoming an adult,' she told themusic.com.auwhen asked about her role model status. ‘But as long as people are willing to accept me as an imperfect role model, then I guess I’m honoured.’

The singer, who broke into international charts with her song Royals, actually admitted that it isn’t even her best song: ‘I understand why it worked and why it was kind of a hit, I can see those qualities in it, but at the same time there’s part of me that’s like, “these melodies are just not as good as something I could have written now”, or like “I definitely wouldn’t have written this lyric this way if I had’ve written it now”.’

Still, she's trying not to beat herself up about it. ‘I was 15 when I wrote it and I’m 17 now, so I think you grow a lot in that period. It definitely feels like a bit of a relic now.’

Jeeze. If two-year-old Royals is a relic, then WTF are we? Stop making us feel so old, Lorde! Then we’ll let you mess up. Promise. No, but seriously, she's taking a pretty level-headed approach to this fame malarkey. And we're all for that.
